Building Inclusive Communities
September 6, 2016
The VCU Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) program promotes our institution’s mission of inclusive excellence by encouraging a climate of intercultural respect and understanding. Through activities, examples, and group discussions, BIC explores how diversity affects our workplaces and our communities. The program provides a framework for examining power differentials across a range of traits such as race, class, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, employment status, veteran status, language, and immigration status. Inclusion and equity are inseparable from our institutional mission, and central to our success.
BIC offers an outstanding opportunity for professional development open to VCU employees who would like to become certified BIC facilitators. The initial 4-day training session is planned for October 2016, and most of the subsequent trainings will be 2 days at a time. The application deadline is Monday, September 19, 2016.
